What a content watch is and when to use it
Site Monitoring answers "can the site be opened"; a content watch answers "did this thing on the page change":
- Track competitor/product prices — notified on change;
- Track stock status (in-stock/out-of-stock wording);
- Track updates to version numbers, announcement bars, careers pages, policy pages;
- Watch whether key blocks of your own site (ICP filing number, support phone, QR code) get tampered with.
#How it works
On your chosen interval it fetches the page → pulls out that one piece using an extraction rule → compares with the previous value → on difference records a change and notifies per your conditions. Every change keeps a snapshot, so history and diffs are replayable.
#Difference from site monitoring
| Site monitoring | Content watch | |
|---|---|---|
| Target | Whole-site availability | One part of a page |
| Alert means | Down / slow / error | Content changed / condition met |
| Typical cadence | 1–10 minutes | Minutes to hours |
- Start with Create a watch with the wizard — most cases don't need hand-written rules;
- For precise targeting see Extraction rules.
