Cutting alert noise — mute, maintenance windows and retries
#Three ways to quiet things down
| Way | Scope | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Per-site mute | One site | That site keeps flapping long-term or is in maintenance — don't want its alerts |
| Maintenance window | Global, on a schedule | Fixed release/backup windows; auto-starts and auto-ends |
| Global mute | All sites, manual | Temporary wide-scale ops — remember to turn it back off |
#Maintenance window
Set a global mute window under System settings (e.g. daily 02:00–04:00): checks keep running and records keep logging during the window — alerts just aren't sent. It ends on its own, so there's nothing to forget.
#Global mute
Manually on, manually off. The biggest risk is forgetting to turn it off — that's monitoring silently going dead. Only for short manual emergencies; for recurring windows use maintenance windows.
#Retries on alert failure
Failed notifications queue for retry; unrecoverable ones (like hard bounces) stop delivery with the reason recorded. Check Alert queue / retry status on the settings page.
Don't reach for mute too fast on "too many alerts" — usually it's the consecutive-failure threshold set too low or the site genuinely flapping. Tune thresholds and check rules first.
