Recipient verification — why and how
#Why verification is required
It stops anyone from pointing our alerts at someone else's mailbox — if you don't verify an address, we don't send to it. That's a hard rule.
#How to verify
- Under System settings in the Alert notifications section, enter recipient addresses and save.
- The system immediately sends a verification email to each new address (explaining who wants to send it mail).
- The recipient clicks the link → shown as Verified; alerts only reach that address from then on.
- Verification state appears next to each address; unverified ones are skipped with the reason shown.
#Rules in detail
- Links are valid for 48 hours and single-use; the same address can't be re-sent within 5 minutes.
- Verified addresses can't be verified twice; a changed mailbox goes through the process again.
- Settings isn't the only source of addresses — those listed in the rota's
emailsneed verification too, same rules. - Enough hard bounces (5xx) stop delivery to that address; re-verifying lifts the block.
Note
Unverified addresses won't get alerts, and nothing in the system shows "this mail never went out" — after configuring, remember to have each recipient click the verification email.
